Built it. Cooled it. Giving it away July 4 (Cosmic Orange PC)Why I built this Cosmic Orange PC giveaway
People said don't build with this case. They were right about the puzzle. They were wrong about the cooling. The cooling almost broke me. I figured it out anyway.
The case is the Teenage Engineering Computer-1 in pure... well self named "cosmic orange" yes I know, it's not an iPhone. I picked the build around the case, not the other way around. Most builders won't touch a mini-ITX of this shape because the thermals fight you the whole way.
Then I decided I'd rather give it away after I had a wild idea for the cooler position... picture is the spoiler.
The build story
The material and shape of this case create an issue. Low ceiling. Tight side clearance flimsy when building. No room for a tower air cooler that could actually work well imo. Stock AIO mounts don't line up. Stock fans maybe. The cable paths cross right where the air wants to move.
I spent a while on the cooling positioning. AIO's are my fav. But where to put it, where to route those huge tubes?
Here's what finally cracked it. I flipped the fan orientation so the AIO pulled cool air straight off the top and gettign the GPU hot air out also. Then I pulled the hose through the back. The LP GPU was a winner although I didn't want it at first.
Small moves. Stacked together, they dropped my load temps from "shut it down" territory to a steady spot I could trust for an several hours sessions - it's still not the ALL day gaming case, heck its a 5060 and ITX, it says I love gaming but I have other things in life too. That balance was the difference between a case people warned me about and a PC I'd be proud to mail to a stranger.
People in other videos and comments said to give up on this case. I get it. There were a couple of hours I almost agreed with them. But the orange is the whole point... superficial yes, and small that is important also. Maybe the shape was the point. Anyways it's neat for sure!

Why PCGiveaway.com exists
About ten years into running my IT business, a counselor sat me down and told me I needed a hobby. I needed a break. I went home and didnt listen. Finally, I randomly started building PCs again, and the micro-focus of a single quiet build became the calm I'd been missing. Then came the thought that feeling was there with every build... but I don't need a new computer very often. So I'm building and giving away. We all win.
I build PCs and I teach how I do it (YES Im slow at getting videos out, I'm planning on a clean calm simple PC building course for my people). That second half matters. The dream is to build and give away a PC every month, and to film every step so the next person can follow it. It's a dream. But pcgiveaway.com is real now. The giveaways are running slowly yes. The build is in my hand.
If you've ever wanted to build your first PC and felt the internet was too loud, I'm working on the calm class I needed when I started. It's going to be called ****** Secrete Name - coming soon! The Cosmic Orange build is one of the first PC giveaways online, done in public, most have been local - in person with friends\family\family friends. Same path. Same calm voice. No gatekeeping. No talking down. Just a steady walk through every part, every cable, every screw, in the order it actually happens.
